Christmas Day - Relay Alert

Today we received an urgent request from the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle Upon Tyne, at 16:20hrs to collect 16,000 units of blood product from St James Hospital, in Leeds, for delivery before 22:00hrs.

We liaised with Whiteknights who dispatched one of their volunteers to collect at 17:40hrs. They transported it up to Scotch Corner Services where our volunteer Clive met him at 18:40hrs and then travelled to Sniperley, where he handed over the blood and the car to our volunteer Kevan at 19:35hrs who transported to the RVI and delivered it at 20:07hrs.

Clive had completed his 12 hour shift hence the handover of the vehicle and the blood product. This urgent request was for a haemophiliac patient so was a rather special delivery.
